On Friday June 22nd, our 5th and 6th classes formed groups and set off around the town of Swinford and its surrounds to gather litter. We found that cigarette butts are the main source of litter in Swinford at the moment. We brought all the bags of litter back to our school grounds and Tommy Foote, Mayo County Council, kindly collected these in the afternoon. Upon our return to school, we were treated to a lovely lunch, provided by Cathal from the Gateway Hotel and funded by Swinford Tidy Towns Committee. Carmel from Swinford Tidy Towns spoke to us about all the Tidy Towns do for our community on a voluntary basis. We acknowledge the fantastic work of Swinford TIdy Towns and we promise to do our utmost to keep Swinford litter free!
